I-40 Gallup, NM Bridge Replacement and Roadway Reconstruction

The I-40 bridge replacement and drainage improvement project addresses needed improvements to the roadway over the South Fork Puerco River near Church Rock. The project will alleviate roadway flooding during large storm events by removing and replacing bridges in both eastbound and westbound lanes. The new bridges will be higher and longer than the existing bridges, to allow for increase capacity in the river and restore natural floodplain functions. During construction NM 118 will be temporarily closed. I-40 will maintain two lanes of traffic in both directions at all times to minimize impacts to freeway users.
